Why NorthAssay exists
NorthAssay is in open beta, built for people who hire strangers they will never meet in person. This page says plainly what stage it is at, because the alternative is letting you find out later.
The problem it was built for
Hiring a freelancer or a remote contractor removes most of the signals ordinary hiring runs on. You cannot ask a colleague what they are like to work with. You cannot watch them work. You have a profile, a call, and a decision to make.
The honest answer is to test the work. The reason people do not is that writing a job-specific assessment and a rubric takes an afternoon per role, and nobody has an afternoon per role.
That is the gap NorthAssay closes: the assessment and the rubric stop being a cost you pay per role.
What it will not do
It does not reject candidates. It ranks, explains, and flags — every decision is made by a person, and every score can be overridden with a note. This is a product decision, not a disclaimer: a tool that auto-rejects is a tool nobody can defend when asked why.
It does not score tone of voice, facial expression, or enthusiasm. It does not build a candidate profile across employers. It does not train shared models on your assessments or your candidates’ answers.
On fairness, stated plainly
No bias or adverse-impact audit has been conducted. We have limited exposure by design — the scorer never receives a name, photo or country — but we have limited it, not measured it. Responsible AI sets out the full position.
Where it currently stands
Open beta. Free, no credit card, no seat limits, no sales call. Paid plans will come, with notice, and early users will be looked after.
There are no case studies on this site because there are not yet customers to write them about. When there are, they will be real ones. In a category whose entire job is judging people fairly, inventing social proof would be the fastest possible way to deserve none.
Getting in touch
Questions, security reviews, and vendor questionnaires all go to hello@northassay.com. Policy documents carry numbered sections so you can cite a specific clause.
The fastest way to judge it is to use it
Describe a role in a sentence and look at what comes back. If the assessment it builds is wrong for the role, that tells you more than this page can.
